Growing up in India, I witnessed water scarcity all around me. During our hot summer months, we used to bring over a water tanker to fill an existing tank at home.
There was no water from the city all day.
We only had access to water from the city at 5:30 am and only for an hour, so my father woke up early to fill a day’s worth of water for drinking and cooking.
In villages, it was more dire. There was no water supply from the lack of infrastructure. Villagers would walk miles up and down the hill to fetch water for cooking, drinking, and sometimes bathing. There were no bathrooms, just a small space marked by bamboo shoots where you were supposed to bathe. Or villagers have to go to the river to bathe, the same river where all animals would bathe and defecate.
These were only a few days that we spent every year in the village, not knowing, I was so privileged to have that one-hour water supply at home.
That is also the reason I am equally as passionate about equitable access to water and sanitation. It’s also the reason I have worked with Drink Local Drink Tap for so long. They do the work of bringing water and sanitation to many people.
My purpose as a business owner is to use my power to change things for good, live out my values, feel joy, and build a business where I not only serve the causes I’m passionate about but also connect with my clients and team members. I’m happiest when I’m living in my creative fullness and transformationally impacting WASH and food nonprofits.
